Draft — please review with your own counsel before launch. This describes how ReadBack actually behaves today.

The short version

ReadBack is a local macOS app. It reads your Claude Code session transcripts aloud and never uploads them anywhere. The app can send anonymous usage data, but only if you turn it on. This website sets no tracking cookies.

What the app accesses

  • Claude Code transcripts. ReadBack reads the local transcript files Claude Code writes on your Mac. It only reads them — it never modifies or transmits them.
  • Smart descriptions. When enabled, descriptions of code and diagrams are produced by your own Claude CLI (or your ANTHROPIC_API_KEY). Those requests go from your machine to Anthropic under your own account; ReadBack adds no intermediary.
  • Connecting another machine. If you stream a remote machine's sessions, that traffic stays on your own network (LAN), optionally protected by a shared token. It does not pass through our servers.

Anonymous usage data

ReadBack can send anonymous usage data to help us understand how the app is used and decide what to improve. It is off until you turn it on. You're asked once, on first launch, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings, under "Send usage data."

When enabled, a daily summary may include:

  • A random anonymous id. Generated on your device to group your own events together. It is not your name, your email, or a hardware identifier, and we can't tie it back to you.
  • Your environment. App version, macOS version, and locale.
  • Usage shape. Install date, first-use date, and how many reading sessions you had that day.
  • Feature and plan flags. Which features you've switched on or off, and whether you're on the free or Pro tier.
  • Upgrade interactions. When an upgrade prompt is shown or clicked, so we can tell whether those prompts help or get in the way.

It never includes your Claude Code transcripts, message text, file contents, file paths, or any personal information. The data goes only to our analytics backend on Google Firebase (see Processors below).

What we store

When you buy Pro, our licensing backend stores only what's needed to issue and re-send your license: your name and email (from the payment), the order id, the issued license key, and the purchase/update dates. We do not receive your card details.

Processors

  • Paddle — our payment provider and Merchant of Record. Paddle handles checkout and billing data under its own privacy policy.
  • Resend — delivers your license-key email.
  • Google Firebase — hosts this site and the licensing backend.
